AretoNet is a Malta-based company with a decentralised team, working fully remote from home, with members of the team spanning various countries including Malta, Slovakia, UK and India.


Our team is seeking a highly skilled and experienced an IT Engineer with a predominantly data background to spearhead the development, maintenance, and enhancement of our data management systems. This critical role is at the heart of our technology operations, ensuring that our databases run efficiently, securely, and are scalable to meet the evolving needs of our business. As an integral part of our IT operations team, the successful candidate will leverage their deep expertise in MS SQL or Azure SQL to optimise our data processes, enhance database performance, and ensure the integrity and availability of our data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain high-quality SQL scripts, optimising performance and ensuring data integrity.
  • Implement and optimise indexes, schema modifications, and other database improvements to enhance performance and scalability.
  • Utilise advanced monitoring tools to oversee database performance, identifying bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
  • Engage in the optimisation of data processes, leveraging your expertise to streamline operations and enhance efficiency.
  • Contribute to the team’s efforts in utilising Azure technologies to ensure business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Support data archiving strategies and manage automated backup processes, ensuring data availability and compliance with data retention policies.
  • Document database processes, schemas, and configurations to maintain a clear understanding of the database environment and facilitate knowledge sharing.
  • Support the IT ops team when required.


  • Minimum 4 years of experience with MS SQL or Azure SQL, with demonstrated expertise in SQL/T-SQL.
  • Proven track record of query optimisation and database performance tuning.
  • Familiarity with database monitoring tools and techniques.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple databases and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, to collaborate effectively with the technology team and document processes clearly.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision, taking the initiative to identify and resolve database-related issues.
  • Knowledge in general database administration.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with SQL Grease or similar database performance monitoring tools.
  • Knowledge of ETL/ELT technologies such as Azure Data Factory and/or Synapse, enhancing data integration and transformation capabilities.
  • Experience working with big data solutions and/or large databases.
  • Knowledge of the various data technologies and storage options available in Azure.
  • Experience with Azure infrastructures.
